  It Pays to Be Honest

Nowadays people are troubled with mass of dishonest behaviors in society. Teachers get annoyed when they catch students cheating on exams; consumers get hurt when they unfortunately buy some fake products; children are misled when they see their parents tell lies so as to evade the responsibility they should take.

Why do people cheat? The main reason probably lies in immediate interest they may obtain by cheating. For example, a company, which manufactures fake products, may seem to win for a moment because it can minimize its manufacture cost by doing so. This kind of businesses, however, will be driven out of the market in the long run. For the consumers after getting to know the poor quality of the products will not buy them anymore.

The same is true of individuals. Dishonest people dare not take on the responsibility of life. They cheat in class, in office, at home and so on. But the truth can hardly be masked. The moment the truth comes out they will lose their credibility, which is easier to destroy than to rebuild. Consequently, these dishonest will suffer a long time because of their cheating behaviors. In conclusion, no one can afford to be dishonest in a civilized society.

Honesty is the pillar of a society. People will benefit from being honest in the long run. That's why we say it pays to be honest.

My dormitory room is on the second floor.

It is small and crowded. The dark green walls and the dirty white ceiling make the room seem dark, and thus even smaller than it is, As youwalk into the room, you are stopped short by my bed which fills half of the room. The two large windows over the bed are hidden by heavy dark gold drapes.

Against the wall on your left, pushed into a corner behind the head of the bed, is a large bookcase which is crammed with papers, books, and knick-knacks, Wedged in between the bookcase and the wall opposite the bed is a small grey metal desk. It has a brown wooden chair which seems to fill the left end of the room.Stuffed under the desk is a wooden wastepaper basket overflowing with paper and debris. The wall above the bookcase and desk is completely taken up with two small posters. On the right hand of the room is a narrow closet with clothes, shoes, hats, tennis racquets, and boxes bulging out of its sliding doors. Everytime I walk out of the door, I think, Now I know what it is like to live in a closet. at it is like to live in a closet.hat it is like to live in a closet.

  参考范文:My View on Major Ranking

In recent years, it is very popular to rank majors. Major ranking lists based on a variety of criteria can be found on some educational websites or newspapers. These lists have great influence on students and many of them have come to rely on these lists to make their major-choice decisions.

To this phenomenon, people’s opinions vary from each other. Some think that the results of the ranking are helpful for high school students to choose a major field of study, e.g., some lists tell people what majors will lead to decent jobs after graduation. Some people, however, believe that many lists are actually useless. Rankings are only about numbers and they do not tell you anything about the distinct nature of the major. Besides, some majors may be listed as hot majors when students enter colleges, but will be unpopular when they graduate.

As far as I’m concerned, we should not over-stress major ranking. It should be remembered that rankings can play a big role in the selection of a major but it should not be the only criterion. Many factors including your own perception of the major should matter in your final choice.

  children of the future age,

  reading this indignant page,

know that in a former time

love, sweet love, was thought a crime.

  in the age of gold,

  free from winters cold,

  youth and maiden bright,

  to the holy light,

naked in the sunny beams delight.

  once a youthful pair,

  filled with softest care,

  met in garden bright

  where the holy light

had just removed the curtains of the night.

  there, in rising day,

  on the grass they play;

  parents were afar,

  strangers came not near,

and the maiden soon forgot her fear.

  tired with kisses sweet,

  they agree to meet

  when the silent sleep

  waves oer heavens deep,

and the weary tired wanderers weep.

  to her father white

  came the maiden bright;

  but his loving look,

  like the holy book,

all her tender limbs with terror shook.

  ona, pale and weak,

  to thy father speak!

  o the trembling fear!

  o the dismal care

that shakes the blossoms of my hoary hair!
